-More than 900 kids have handed Robb their suicide notes
Robb Nash and his band have spent a decade touring across Canada on a mission to inspire
suicidal kids to choose life instead. This Is War explores Robb’s own remarkable journey from
suicidal to significant. Over the years, more than 900 kids have handed Robb their suicide
notes - these notes are all too real and the stakes are literally life and death.
The black sheep of his family, Robb grew up in an ultra-religious home in what could be called
Canada’s bible belt. When he was seventeen Robb died in a car accident. He’d been hit by a
semi-truck and according to the first responder who happened to be driving by, was dead for
several minutes. A miraculous turn gave him a second chance but Robb’s fight for his life had
just begun. The trauma of the accident and the painstaking recovery (which includes a titanium
plate in his head), lead him deep into the darkness of depression; a place where he stared
suicide in the face every day. A phone call to the truck driver who thought he’d killed him gave
Robb his first ray of hope, but he still had a long way to go. He turned to music, which helped
the healing continue for Robb and he left home to pursue life as a rock star ... a decision that
led some of his family to turn their back on him.
With his band Live On Arrival, Robb saw a steady rise in the industry with a recording contract,
four songs in the Canadian top 40, two top 10 singles, and a fast track to international
commercial success. But something wasn’t right. Robb knew in his soul that he needed to use
his second chance for something else. He’d been sent back for a reason. So, he tore up his
recording contract to play shows for free, in the hopes that his music and story of survival in
the face of mental illness and addiction would help others. By the impact he’s had on countless
lives and the numerous awards and honours he’s received, it’s clear he made the right choice.
